50th Anniversary of Tibetan Uprising

Tibetan monks and demonstrators clashed with police in Kathmandu Nepal on Tuesday 10 March 2009 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising and the Dalai Lama's flight into exile. The demonstrations were not allowed to leave Kathmandu's heavily Tibetan area of Boudha. They come at a time when Nepal is seeking to further its ties with China in order to receive additional economic aid and move away from its war torn past.
