Venus. Synthetic aperture radar map showing arachnoids in the Fortuna region on the surface of Venus. Arachnoids are remarkable features found on Venus. This image is centred on 40 degrees north and 18 degrees longitude. The brighter lines have been caused by upwelling of magma from the interior of the planet which pushed up the surface to form 'cracks'. Rough areas appear bright, flat ones dark. This map was created using data gathered by the Magellan radar-mapping spacecraft.
