Closed petrol station, 1973 oil crisis. Sign next to fuel pumps telling motorists that the petrol station is closed due to the 1973 oil crisis. This crisis was an oil embargo imposed on the USA by Arab oil-producing countries due to the US support of the Yom Kippur War waged by Israel. The embargo began in October 1973. Following negotiations by the USA with the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) and Israel, the embargo was lifted in March 1974, and Israeli troops withdrew a few months later. Photographed in Oregon, USA, in October 1973.
