Crimean (Russo-Turkish) War 1853-1856. French troops inside the Mamelon Vert, a small hill transformed into a redoubt by the Russian military engineers, after the fall of Sebastopol (Sevastopol). Sebastopol was under siege from October 1854 to 11 September 1855 when it fell to the Allied forces and the Russians retreated.
