V. L, for the first three months service. appointed as sergeant and drill-master of his company,;and upon reaching Camp Dennison was made drill-master ofthe non-commissioned officers of the regiment. Upon the reorganization of the regiment for three yearsservice, he was unanimously elected first lieutenant of his Icompany, and served as such officer until after the battle of;Cross Lanes, when he was detached and assigned to theicommand of Company E.
