She was of Welsh descent, and trans-mitted to her son the sturdy virtues and inflexible courageof her ancestral race. This inheritance enabled him suc-cessfully to utilize the strength of his muscle and theenergy of his brain in subduing the stubborn enemies thatconfront the pioneer at every step.
