Mitte, City Palace, Stadtschloss. Construction of new museum and entertainment complex on site of original Palace

The original City Palace was built in the 15th Century. It changed over the centuries and the final 18th century shape is attributed to German architect, Andreas Schlüter. It was the residence of the Electors of Brandenburg, the Hohenzollern Kings of Prussia and the German Emperors ( after the 1871 unification of Germany). It became a museum 1n 1918 and was damaged by Allied bombing in World War Two. After reunification of Germany, it was decided that the palace would be rebuilt using reconstructed facades on three sides of the building. The modern interior will house the Humboldt forum Museum, restaurants, a theatre and an auditorium
