In 1873 he was a member of the MinnesotaLegislature. Governor Davis appointed him adjutant-general in 1875, and he held over during a part of Gov-ernor Pillsburys term. In 1883 he was appointed Stateoil inspector by Governor Hubbard, and held the officefour years. He was secretary and treasurer of the Re-publican State Central Committee a greater portion ofthe time from 1875 to 1883. In 1884 he was made chair-. man .if committee, and in that capacity conductedtlic Blaine and Logan campaign. Captain Castle was appointed postmaster of St. Paul,February , 1892, by President Harrison, and still holdsthat office, which, in magnitude and importance, rankshigh among the first-class post-offices of the has been closely identified with almost all the move-ments for the past two decades for the advancement ofSt. Paul, and is in keen sympathy with the spirit whichhas animated them. He is as ambitious as any one tosee the city among the foremost, not only in materialprosperity, but also in whatever makes for the comfortand convenience of its people. An efficient mail service isone of these things, and with his business skill and energyhe will secure it if ail)-one can.
