Protesters outside the Stock Exchange wear 'coal monster' masks for called for an end to plans for open-cast mining at Phulbari in Bangladesh by British compant and for the company to be de-listed from the Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market. Protests in Bangladesh have prevented mining for ten years, and the event was also a vigil for the three villagers shot dead and two hundred injured at a mass protest in 2006. The mine would displace 130,000 farming families, destroy 14,600 hectares of fertile land, threaten clean water resources and have a devastating impact on one of the world’s largest mangrove forests and UNESCO heritage site, the Sunderbans.
