There was a loop soldered to the crib wire opposite the palatalsurface of the first molar on each side of the arch, into which washooked the end of a piano wire formed like the letter S, and extendedforward passing just back of and following the curve of the incisors. Gold bands were placed on the incicors with lugs soldered ontheir palatal surface to hold that portion of the spring in position.
