This bridge is at Brobury, a village in western Herefordshire, England, located between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. It lies across the beautiful River Wye from Bredwardine but is joined with Monnington on Wye for civil parish purposes. The fine historic bridge, built 1759, links the two hamlets. There are splendid views along the peaceful Wye valley. Climbing the surrounding hills gives extensive panoramas over the river and across the Golden Valley to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons, and to the east even as far as the Malvern Hills. The Wye, at Brobury, is crossed by a long, narrow brick bridge built in 1759, one of the few bridges on the upper reaches of the Wye not swept away in the great flood of 10 February 1795. Downstream, the river melts its way through grassy meadows. Upstream, it's bordered by trees. Keith and Pru Cartwright, the new owners of Brobury House, have the Wye as the ultimate water feature, marking the southwestern boundary of their land. As well as attracting those with an historical, artistic or literary persuasion (Hay-on-Wye, the book town is very close), the area is visited by walkers, including those on the Wye Valley Walk or on Vaughan's Way; by horseriders on the Three Rivers Ride; by canoeists descending the Wye, by anglers and naturalists (see Activities Link). The cathedral city of Hereford is close by, with its Mappa Mundi museum, and a cider museum. There is a Hereford Cider Trail which visits producers large and small, and a Black and White Trail which passes through six historic villages with ancient half-timbered houses.
