Ian Borthwick was the longest-serving councillor in Scotland. He was first elected to Dundee Town Council in 1963,Tayside Regional Council in 1975 then to Dundee City Council in 1996, finally to Lord Provost of Dundee in 2017. Ian Borthwick is the longest-serving councillor in Scotland. He was first elected to Dundee Town Council in 1963, then to Tayside Regional Council in 1975, then to Dundee City Council in 1996, and finally to Lord Provost of Dundee in 2017. The Lord Provost is also the Lord-Lieutenant of Dundee, making them the Queen's official representative in the city. The Lord Provost will host any royal family visits as well as events involving the armed forces
