Nicolas Remene / Le Pictorium - Mali: the anti-French feeling - 16/3/2022 - Mali / Bamako District / Bamako - Ami Wallet Idrissa (seated on the couch) and Bintou Wallet Abdou are both 22 years old, married, and have one child each. Both left Timbuktu for Bamako where they now live, in 2019 and 2016 respectively. Although they do not speak out in Bamako on this sensitive issue, both say they fear the departure of the French and a new rise in insecurity in the Timbuktu region. Ami has sad memories of being beaten by jihadists while walking back from the river with her brother, and she was blamed for it. Both were beaten. Today she braids and does hair for clients, which allows her to earn some money.
