Carotid artery stenosis. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiogram of the view inside the neck's carotid artery at the point where it bifurcates into the internal and external branches. The narrowing is caused by a calcified plaque (blue, centre left) at the start of the internal carotid artery. If this artery become blocked or narrowed, this can cause a stroke (cerebrovascular accident, CVA) due to lack of blood supply to the brain.
