This is a real situation. Image not to be used in a defamatory context. Geriatric patient, a man aged 88, undergoes kidney dialysis. Kidney dialysis (haemodialysis) is necessary when the kidneys are unable to filter waste products from the blood naturally, so the patient's blood is fed through a dialysis machine (dialyser, at left) which acts like an artificial kidney. The procedure takes several hours and must be repeated several times a week.
