The severe crisis in the carbide industry on theEuropean continent, according to the Electrical Re-view of London, has now lasted for a period of twoyears, and has become so intense that various Germanand other works have been compelled to suspend pro-duction, whilst others are declared to be conducted ata loss. A solution of the problem is, however, thoughtto be possible by forming an international works equipped themselves for the contestsome time ago, and intended to continue the fight tothe bitter end. But owing to the large losses, andperhaps also to the pressure of bank connections, theseworks have gradually assumed a more conciliatorytone, and it is said that secret negotiations in regardto a syndicate have been opened with the Italian pro-ducers.
