The stem of the pessary is outlinedwhere it lay buried in the tissues to the right. them. The effect of a hard rubber pessary, which is too large, is to imbeditself in the posterior vaginal wall. On removing such a pessary a deep semi-circular sulcus may be seen back of the cervix and extending out on the lateralwalls. If granulations meet over the posterior bar, this part of the pessaryis completely buried, and must be cut out to be removed. In more extreme cases the ulceration extends through into the rectum be-hind, and the anterior bar pushes through the vesico-vaginal wall into thebladder in front, forming recto-vaginal and vesico-vaginal fistula?. Instancesof ulceration even into the peritoneum are also recorded. Fig. 184 shows a childs bangle, removed from the uterus by Dr. AnnaL. Church, of Madras, India.
