As part of the ceremony for the keel laying of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71), the keel is lowered by a crane to sit on a series of blocks at Newport News Shipbuilding. The ship is slated for delivery early in 1988, and will join three other nuclear-powered aircraft carriers (CVN-65, -68, AND -69) now in operation.
