The ICDF became operational Oct. 1, 2004, and is commanded by Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Joseph V. Medina, Commander, Task Force Five Eight (CTF-58)/Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG-3). The ICDF, along with coalition forces, will contribute to security and stability operations in Iraqi territorial waters and will include the protection of Al Basrah and Khawr Al Amaya oil terminals.
