In allcases the pivot proved to be theweakest point in the mounting ofthe guns. The slide of the Armstrong gnu is fitted with two barsor holdfasts (Plate 35), with eyeswhich slip over the pivot. A keythrough the pivot holds them inplace. The recoil of the gnu naturally tends to lift these holdfasts offthe pivot.
