The early Confederate suc-cesses of the 6th of .\pril were due to hialeadership. His manner of death andhis way of meeting it attested to hisbravery. Struck by a minie ball, he keptin the saddle, falling exhausted and dyingfrom the loss of blood. His death put thewhole South into mourning.
