Clostridium perfringens culture. Petri dish containing a nutrient medium that has been used to culture a microbe which has been identified as the bacterium Clostridium perfringens. This bacterium is the main cause of the acute rapidly-spreading gangrene known as gas gangrene. It results in foul-smelling dead tissue. It is cultured on blood agar, a nutrient agar enriched with blood for bacterial growth.
