Horizontal wide angle of the Reichstag on a bright sunny day with the memorial by Dieter Appett in the foreground - each of the 96 slate plates commemorates one of the 96 opposition members of Parliament murdered by the Nazis in 1933. The Reichstag building is one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin and is the seat of Germany's reunified parliament, the 'Bundestag'. During its volatile history it has been demolished by fire, damaged by World War II air raids and left to deteriorate due to its proximity to the Wall during the Cold War. After reunification, it was completely restored and enhanced with the addition of the glass dome by British architect Sir Norman Foster.
