The tiny harbour of Tarbet, north of Scourie on the northwest coast of Sutherland, is the departure point for the small ferries which take passengers to Handa Island on day trips during the summer months. Handa Island Wildlife Reserve is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, and on the Atlantic-facing seacliffs there is one of the largest colonies of breeding seabirds in Northwest Europe, which are a great attraction for the visiting birdwatchers and wildlife photographers.
