Pelvic Haematoma and Haematocele.—When, in any case ofthis nature, it is deemed practicable to assist absorption by theaid of an electric current the expert may safely employ avaluable remedy which should never be attempted by the tyro. The immediate primary indications are thus given by anauthority on the subject : To check the hemorrhage whenthe case is seen early enough, to produce coagulation of the TREATMENT OF PELVIC INFLAMMATION. 431 diffused blood as quickly as possible and prevent a recurrenceof the hemorrhage, to subdue pain and prevent inflammatorycomplications, to promote absorption and prevent suppurationand the formation of abscess, and by a speedy convalescenceshorten the confinement in bed. The demonstrated positivepolar actions of the galvanic current fulfil these indica-tions. With the patient in the dorsal position in bed place a felt-covered, flat electrode, 7X10, well moistened in a warm solution. Fig. 161.
