Barnhurst Farm, Pendeford, Early 20th cent. Leo James with a farm horse at Barnhurst Farm. A horse-drawn threshing machine can be seen in the background. The farm was part of the Barnhurst Estate that dates back to the thirteenth century. The estate has been owned by Wolverhampton Council since 1867 and used primarily for the disposal of sewage. The original gatehouse to the farm was demoilshed in 1963 but the dovecote was preserved and has given the name 'Dovecotes' as part of the adjoining Pendeford estate. It was worked as a farm until 1975.
