Christ in Majesty, the four Evangelists and angels swinging incense censers, sculpted late 1100s on tympanum over north portal to the Romanesque Basilique Saint-Just-de-Valcabrère (Basilica of St Just), consecrated in the year 1200 in the French Pyrenees, at Valcabrère, Occitanie, France.

Valcabrère, Occitanie, France: angels swing incense censers above the four Evangelists, as they support a central mandorla or pointed oval framing a seated Christ in Majesty in the tympanum of the sculpted north portal to the Romanesque Basilique Saint-Just-de-Valcabrère (Basilica of St Just), consecrated in the year 1200. Christ makes a gesture of blessing while holding a book in his left hand. In this image, St Matthew and St Luke stand on the left of the mandorla, while St John and St Mark stand on the right. The basilica was built on the burial ground of the ancient Roman city of Lugdunum Covenarum and many Gallo-Roman architectural fragments, including columns and capitals, were re-used in its construction. The church, surrounded by its own cemetery, stands apart from the village of Valcabrère on the Garonne Valley plain, below and about 1 km east of the village of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges with its Romanesque and Gothic former cathedral. Both villages, in the central French Pyrenees, are part of the Camino de Santiago or Ways of St James UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is also one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France (Les Plus Beaux Villages de France).
