Bramante Staircase, also known as the Scala Elicoidale di Momo. Constructed in 1932 as part of an expansion of the Vatican Museums.

The modern Bramante Staircase, also known as the Scala Elicoidale di Momo, which was constructed in 1932 as part of an expansion of the Vatican Museums. The staircase is located within the Vatican Museums and is open to the public. The staircase in the image is a double helix staircase, which means it has two interlaced staircases that spiral upwards around a central core. This design allows for continuous movement of people in both directions without having to cross paths. The staircase is made of white marble and has a wrought iron railing. The original Bramante Staircase, on the other hand, is located in the Pio-Clementine Museum and is closed to the public. It was built in 1505 by Donato Bramante and is a single helix staircase. It is also made of white marble and has a granite railing.
