C. and Gilbert Lawrence, of South- ampton, N. S„ have sold their timber lands, tog-ether with mill and lumbering- equipment, to Frank Black. It is reported that Alex. Lumsden, of Ottawa, has just sold to McLachin Bros., of Arnprior, a limber limit on the Kippewa River on which there is a large cinnntily of standing pine. Another large deal in Canadian timber is announced. The Danaher & Melendy Company, of Detroit, is said to have acquired 200 square miles of cedar and spruce timber lands in the province of Quebec. The full particulars are not to hand at time of going to press. The timber limits and mills of the Scot- town Mills Company, in liquidation, was sold by auction at the court house, Sher- brooke, Que., on December 1st, to Peter Lyall, of Montreal, for the sum of 481,000. The limits comprise 87 sq uare miles in the townships of Chesham, Emberton, Ditton, and Hampden, and the mills are situated at Scoistown, N. B. It is thought thai Mr. Lyall represented the Great x\'orthern Lumber Company. The Edmund Hall interests in Canada, comprising extensive timber limits, the mill and salt block at Sarnia, the camp headquarters at Nairn Centre, and the fleet of tugs and dredge plant, have been sold to J. J. McFadden, of Sault Ste. Marie, W. D. Lummis, of Toronto, and W. S. Bell, of Sudbury. The purchase price is said to be in the neighborhood of $840,000. It is the intention of the new proprietors 10 improve the saw mill and conduct ihe business on a more ex- tensive scale than has been done in the past. Lumber Company, Grand Rapids, and the business of the same will be cominued under (he name of the Engel Lumber Company. They have also organized a new parlnership
