Our subjects fa-ther was a slioemaker; he married and located inPhiladelphia, in whi<;h city he worked at his tradeuntil 1844, when he retiirne(l to Lancaster andbecame a manufacturer and retailer. In 1865 oursubject became a partner of his father, the lirniname being J. Marshall it Son. He is the eldestin his fathers family. The father, who is seventy-eight years of age, has been an active member formany yeai-b of St. .Johns Free Kpiscopal Church. Our subjects mothers maiden name was MariaOkeson, a native of I^ancaster, and the daughterof John Okeson, who came from England. Themother died at the age of seventy years, leavinga family of six children, four of whom are living:William O., Mary A., Oeorge A. and Lizzie subject was the eldest in the family, and ob-tained a good common-school education.
