The ends should always be carried underneath the pad of some soft substance is next to be applied over theupper part of the limb, and over that another splint of the samelength as the first. Five or six pieces of flat tape or strong linen, which ought in the first instance to be placed under the lowersplint, are now to be brought round and tied. The limb should befixed upon a frame in the form of a double inclined plane, made bynailing the boards together at an obtuse angle, with the addition ofa foot board. The splints are to be retained for five or six weeks, the time required for the union of the bones varying according tocircumstances. After their removal, the limb should be accustomedto its former functions by degrees; and the patient should be care-ful not to put much weight upon it for at least two months.
