The image is of what remains of the Second World War German coastal gun battery of Longues sur Mer on the Normandy coast being part of the German Atlantic Wall defences. The 150mm naval gun shelled Allied Naval Forces during the Allied invasion of France on the 6th June 1944, known as D-Day. The gun was damaged during the battle and captured by British Forces on the 7th June 1944 playing no further part in the war.
