Bulgaria Elhovo 1st March 2014: Bulgarian young ladies dress in Bulgaraian dress costume hand out martenitsas on the March 1st Baba Marta day. A Bulgarian tradition celebrating the arrival of spring, martenitsa takes the form of a small piece of adornment, made of white and red yarn. Worn from March 1st until an individual sees a stork. The first day of March is also known as Granny Martha's Day, a traditional holiday associated with the welcoming of spring. Bulgarians exchange and wear white and red tassels when sighting a Stork they tie their martenitsa on a branch of a fruit tree, thus giving the tree health and luck.
