Dr. N. , in the Memorial History of Hart-ford County, says of him: His people were fond of him and proud of him ;pnd when he resigned * * * they resisted hisentire separation from them by many forms of re-sistance, urging that he should at least retain aformal connection with them, pledging themselves,in a paper signed by every man of the church, tosupport him as long as he lived whether able tolabor or not. * * * As a pastor his ministrywas fruitful in many ways. His sermons containedan amount of intellectual and religious material thatcould hnrdly be paralleled, and they were put tothe people in a manner to make a great and abidingimpression.
