Larvae of common mosquitos (Culex pipiens). Larves de moustiques domestiques communs (Culex pipiens).

Culex pipiens is the most widely distributed mosquito in the world. A pest, its female sucks the blood of humans when it needs proteins and its bites can transmit diseases. After hatching, its larvae are suspended upside down at the water surface and breathe through a siphon at the tail end.
