Wellington Clock Tower
Wellington Clock Tower was originally built as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington and was erected at the southern edge of London Bridge. It didn't prove popular and was in the way of further London development, so was dismantled in 1867 and brought to Swanage as ballast in the return trips of boats that took Purbeck stone to London by George Burt and his builder uncle, John Mowlem, who were both originally from Swanage, and founders of the Mowlem Construction Company.
