Gunboats Gayundah and Paluma, Bundaberg, 1899. HMQS Paluma and HMQS Gayundah were flat-iron gunboats of the Queensland Maritime Defence Force. They entered service in 1884 and passed to the Commonwealth Naval Forces in 1901. This photograph is taken after the 1899 refit when Gayundah carried two QF 12-pounder guns. Paluma was decommissioned in 1916 and worked as the harbour tender Rip in Melbourne before being scrapped in 1950. Gayundah was decommissioned in 1921 and served as sand and gravel barge in Brisbane. In 1958 she was sold to Redcliffe Town Council and beached as a breakwater at Wo
