Cholecystokinin-8 molecule. Computer model showing the structure of the terminal fragment of a molecule of the hormone cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8). Atoms are colour-coded (carbon: large grey, hydrogen: small grey, oxygen: red, nitrogen: blue, sulphur: yellow). Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a family of hormones responsible for promoting the digestion of fats and proteins. They are secreted in the duodenum (the uppermost and shortest part of the small intestine) and stimulate the release of digestive enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder.
