Some of them have a faint re-semblance to sponge spicules, being others are more like small fragments ofthin shells, broken so as to be about twiceas long as thick. Along some planes in therock are small cavities filled with chalcedonicquartz. These cavities are mostly sphericaland from less than >^ to 1 mm. in chalcedony shows imbedded rectangularbodies which have a tendency to lie endto end, in irregular chains. The rock showsminute black streaky stains, probably manga-nese. This sample is doubtfully labeled ascoming from 1600. Figure. 3. Vertical section of siliceous dolomite from somewherebetween 1250 and 2042. See Descriptions of Samples, 74 (3). Xabout 40. 30 Bulletin of the University of Texas FeetFrom. To. 77. Gray magnesian limestone of fine texture. It is porous and when ground dry has a slightbituminous odor. In thin section it is seento be a finely crystalline dolomite, filled withporosities, angular or spherical. As therewas much salt on the surface of the speci-men, it seems likely that these porositieshad contained the salt. Plate 2. From 1600 78. A section from rock at 1800 feet consists of an oolite matrix, dolomitized, in which are in-cluded crystals of anhydrite, which consti-tute one-half of the mass, nearly, and havereplaced the oolitic matrix. This closelyresembles the other oolitic rock, from 1250-2042 feet, described above. Plate 3 1800 79. A dolomitic limestone of fine texture, contain- ing spherical pockets of anhydrite in smallcrystals of irregular arrangeme
