06 JUNE 2021. RUGELEY, STAFFORDSHIRE. UK The cooling towers of Rugeley Power Station are brought down by controlled explosion at around 11:30am today. The coal fired power station, one of only a few remaining and known as Rugeley B Power Station, had been part of the local skyline since 1970 and was closed in 2016. It generated enough electricity to power around half a million homes. View from a nearby housing estate.
