Yaozhou stoneware covered box, late Tang dynasty,China, 9th century. A circular box with convex cover and straight sides. The base is solid with a knife-parred section round the base, the top has brownish black dots and splashes forming a stylised pattern all on a thin white slip. The base is unglazed revealing a putty coloured body.
