Morris dancers at the Saddleworth Rushcart 2013
The rushcart ceremony, derives from Rogationtide. Parishioners would process around the parish once a year, bearing rushes. They would end up at the parish church and place the rushes on the floor of the church, to replace worn-out rushes. In modern times the ceremony is practiced only in parts of northern England including Lancashire and Cumbria among others. This year 2013 the parade was dedicated to WPC Nicola Hughes, who was killed while on duty.
