Unions organising in the provate security sector marched on the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in Bhisho to demand that government take action against companies that fail to comply with a 2021 agreement that they should contribute towards workers' healthcare benefits. The unions which include KAWU, AWU, SATAWU and NUMSA have been engaged in a campaign to force private security companies to comply with the agreement and for government to take action against those who fail to do so. Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane accepted a memorandum of grievances from union representatives. Mabuyane said he would look into the issues raised by the protestors and respond within the stipulated seven days. Photo: Lucas Ledwaba/Mukurukuru Media
