The figures in thepicture are not at all numerous, but yet the idea of a largenumber of people is given by the masses of troops indicatedin the middle distance. Behind Spinola are the Spanishtroops with their lances. The background is a wide stretchof flat country, bounded by the distant ocean. Here and thereare fortifications. Near the head of the Spanish generalshorse stands a man wearing a plumed hat.
