All about us the ships were sunk or aflameand between us and them and the shore dead bodies floated singlyand in groups. Some hours after, I didnt know how long it wasthen, but Ive since been told it was at 3 oclock in the afternoon, theFrench cruiser Suchet steamed in and rescued seventeen of usmore dead than alive. We were carried to Fort-de-France and putin the hospital.
