Airman 1st Class Dana Ngeat, assigned to the non-destructive inspection (NDI) section of the Utah Air National Guard's 151st Maintenance Group, cleans bolts from the wheel of a KC-135R Stratotanker prior to testing them for surface and near-surface flawsusing Magnetic Particle Inspection. MPI is used to analyze the wear in metal content on engine lubricating oil and other fluids, as well as detect flaws such as cracks, voids and heat damage on aircraft parts utilizing various test equipment.
