Cleethorpes Country Park. Needing attention, once open water now choked with phragmites reeds.

Cleethorpes Country Park. Overrun with reeds and under serviced. Perhaps some are wondering what it would cost to clear the invasive reeds and open the nature area up so we have open water there again as it was originally designed to do? (The pond dipping platforms have been overwhelmed with reed growth). There are two ways of controlling phragmites, the first is to cut them below the water line, but this is not a very good method of control, because they will grow back, albeit a little slow in the first year, but come the second year they are virtually back to full vigour. The cost for this method would be in the region of £2,000 – 3,000 / acre + vat The second and most effective removal method is to remove the rhizome system which severely reduces the amount of re-growth. This involves extra machinery and I much more expensive due to the extra time required. An acre would be a large amount to remove using this method and would cost in the region of £20,000 + vat The nature area is, I guess, about an acre?(edited)There are footbridges separating the large fishing lake to the east and the much smaller 'nature area' at the NW corner, now completely choked up. One side of the footbridge is more or less clear of reeds but the others side is no longer open Nature here does need managing.
