Natural resource technicians from the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron light a backfire during a controlled burn at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Feb. 4, 2016. The backfire was used to create a safeguard between the burn perimeter and other wooded areas. By creating a controlled backfire technicians increased the distance embers travel, reducing the chances of spot fires in other areas not scheduled to burn.
