CONFEDERATE FORTIFICATIONS AT MANASSAS. Winter 1861-2. The Confederates did not follow up their success at Bull Run. Having won the rompletest and most conspicuousvictory of modern times, they set to work to fortify themselves for defence against the enemy they had so disastrously overthrown, precisely as if they had been beaten in the fight, and were called upon to defend themselves against aggression at the hands of anenemy to be feared.
