In 1SS3 he wentto China in the Omaha, having several epidemics toencounter. On his return home he served in New York,being promoted to medical inspector in 1S91. Here hesuperintended the building and fitting of the new medicaland surgical office at the navy-yard, where every facilityis offered for professional work, as well as for chemicalexaminations of supplies and materials. At present is waiting orders. 230 OFFICERS OF THE ARMY AND NAVY (regular). CAPTAIN H. H. KETCHUM. Captain H. II. Ketchum (Twenty-second Infantry)was a sun of Henry and Mary A. Ketchum, who wereborn in Vermont in 1806. He received an academiceducation. Enlisted in [86l in the Sixteenth New YorkVolunteers, at the age ol seventeen. He participated inthe Peninsula campaign of the Army of the Potomac,and was slightly wounded at Gaines Mill. He contin-ued in the field with that army through the Marylandcampaign, and was discharged after the battle of Antie-tam,broken down in health, owing to his youth. Whenhe regained his health again he enlisted in the First NewYork Engineers, and was mustered out of service June1, 1865. He was appointed second lieutenant in the Thir-teenth Infantry on the 23d of February, iS66, and servedat Fort Buford dining the summer of [866, fightingIndians almost daily during that time. He then servedat Port Dakota until July, 1867. He was promotedfust lieutenant
